Welcome!

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
- The Hobbit

Greetings from London!

I can't believe it.  After a little over six hours of flying, I'm sitting in London's Heathrow airport.  My red-eye from BWI was nice; we actually arrived about a half hour ahead of schedule, and it was a pretty calm flight. I didn't have a seatmate, so sleeping was pretty easy.  It is a little disorienting to leave the US at 9pm, fly for six hours, and arrive in London a little after 8:30am.  Let the jet lag begin!

Dawn approaches somewhere over the United Kingdom...

A break in the cloud cover, however brief.

Flying above the clouds!

Sunrise :)

What a view!

Descending...

Approach to London

I took this when we finally broke through the cloud cover. I definitely want to come back to London and explore someday.

Breakfast of champions! The muffin came free from my British Airways flight.  Starbucks tastes pretty much the same in London; my mocha tasted a little stronger than usual, but I'm not going to complain about that!  It was pretty cool using my Starbucks giftcard in Heathrow just like I would back in tenleytown!

  1. You're almost there!!!!

I'm so glad you're keeping a blog. It's a great way for your family and friends to support you while you're over there (without taking up your adventure time with phone calls and skype sessions all the time). I'll be thinking of you, Mary!

  2. I remember Heathrow being a great place to waste time because there is SO MUCH food and SO MANY books!

I'm glad you've arrived safely, Mary. I'm looking forward to other updates!
